Jalen White named Class 2A Back of the Year

Awards season continues for Daleville running back Jalen White as he was named the Class 2A Back of the Year on Jan. 15.

The Back of the Year is awarded every season to the top quarterback or running back in each classification, voted on by the Alabama Sports Writer’s Association.

After White shattered AHSAA records with 3,517 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns in his senior campaign, the awards have rolled in earning Elite 11 and Offensive Player of the Year honors from The Southeast Sun/Daleville-Sun Courier, along with The Dothan Eagle’s Super 12 honors, first team all-state and USA Today All American status.

White also finished third in voting for the ASWA’s top honor, Mr. Football, behind Lanett’s Kristian Story and Spanish Fort quarterback Kris Arbams-Draine.

White was also named to the state’s Super-All State team, which compiles the top 12 football players from the state regardless of classification.

Joining White on the Super All-State team was the best of the best as Story, Abrams-Draine, Hueytown running back Roydell Williams, Thompson quarterback Sawyer Pate, Theodore linebacker Demoy Kennedy, Florence receiver Dee Beckwith, Jacksonville running back Rontarius Wiggins, linebacker Jackson Bratton of Muscle Shoals, St. John Paul II quarterback Seth Brown, Oxford quarterback Trey Higgins and UMS-Wright linebacker Will Breland.

Now White will get the chance to turn his attention to National Signing Day on Feb. 5 as he decides on where he will play college football.

White has received offers from Western Kentucky, Tulane, Mercer, Georgia Southern, Toledo, Coastal Carolina, Arkansas State, North Alabama, Tennessee State and South Alabama. White has also received visits from recruiters from both Tennessee and Florida and has taken visits to both of those schools in recent months, as well.
