Daleville recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, Mayor Jayme Stayton signed a proclamation recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month for Daleville.The proclamation stated that breast cancer is the second most common cancer for women."Whereas, doctors estimate that about 5-10 percent of breast cancers are hereditary, and individuals whose family history puts them at risk for breast cancer should discuss with a doctor or qualified health professional the proper prevention and early diagnosing strategies," the proclamation states.It states that five-year survival rates have increased almost 90 percent since early diagnosing strategies have been introduced."Whereas, Breast Cancer Awareness Month serves as an opportunity to increase awareness of the disease and encourage individuals to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages," the proclamation states.The proclamation states that all forms of research of breast cancer should be "vigorously supported."
